  کوشا و ساعی در عربی؛ (در اصطلاح فقه شیعه اثنی عشری) مرد اعلمی که احکام شرع را از روی ادلهء اربعه (کتاب الله، سنت، عقل و اجماع) استنباط کند و تطبیق آن را بشکل فتوای مذھبی از طریق رساله یی موسوم به توضیح المسائل به مقلدینش تجویز نماید۔

Shiite jurisprudent, a legist, or inferrer of religious problems, who formulates independent decisions in legal or theological matters, based on the interpretation of the four principal tenets (Koran, Sunnat, intellect and consensus) and sanctions the application of his formal opinions by a thesis called Tauzih ul-Masayil for the use of his followers (muqallids)
